Weekend fun!

Friday night Tyler and I went to Zen for dinner with the puppies. It is a cool Thai restaurant that is in an old house. Actually the first place I ate when I got over here the first time around. We walked around a little bit after dinner...Erlangen was abnormally deserted for a Friday night. I am sure there was something going on that we didn't know about. Saturday morning, we planned to get up and head to Nuremberg for the day. It turned out to be one hell of a day. :) The weather has been really crappy here and we had said we weren't going if it was still raining. Saturday morning, there was no rain, just clouds so we decided to go. There is work being done on the tracks between Erlangen and Nuremberg, so what should be about a 25 minute trip took us over a hour. We had to get off the train about half way there and ride a bus the rest of the trip. Luckily there was a girl next to us on the train that spoke English and she filled us in on what was happening!! There was also another soccer game so the trains were packed. And it is the final weekend of Oktoberfest...AND the second to last day of a month long festival that has been going on in Nuremberg. So, obviously once we arrived in Nuremberg, it was very crowded around the train station. We were walking along in the crowd with the puppies and Wembley just stopped in his tracks and pooped on the sidewalk. I guess when you gotta go, you gotta go no matter how many people are rushing around you. We cleaned it up and laughed pretty hard for a while about that one. When we finally made it away from the station and out of the majority of the crowd, we were starving so we found somewhere to eat lunch. Oddly enough, we found the restaurant "California" and had burgers there. It rained (a gross misty rain) the entire time we ate, but cleared up a little when we were ready to head out. Our next project was to find somewhere to get Tyler a haircut, it was getting a little out of control...So much he was having to hold it back with my headbands just to see the TV! The puppies and I sat in the lobby area and waited. They were very anxious the entire time because they could hear his voice... The lady cutting his hair didn't speak English, so another employee was translating. He showed her how much he wanted cut off and with the language barrier, she thought that is how much he wanted LEFT. :) Good thing is, he won't have to get another hair cut while we are here!! I think it looks good, just shorter than he typically wears his hair. Next we are going to work on Wembley getting a haircut, because his is pretty out of control too!!! We walked around a little longer and explored some areas of Nuremberg we haven't seen yet. Sat down and had a drink and met a large group of Americans that were doing a 2 week WWII tour and then decided to head back to the station. Our ride home was the WORST. RIDE. EVER. When we got to the station, the next train wasn't for another 45 mintues, so we decided to go sit in a coffee shop until right before the train was scheduled to depart. Big mistake. Because of the soccer game and lots of people heading back from Oktoberfest, when we got to the platform, the train was totally packed...there were people pouring out of every door!! We started running down the platform trying to find somewhere to fit. We finally squeezed in to a space we thought there was barely any more room...apparently there was because this drunk fat guy and his kid pushed us over and squeezed in too. That was fun. I thought Tyler was going to get in a fight with him...funny how you can speak English when it is beneficial to you. :) The doors broke on a stop about halfway there and we had to sit and wait for around 30 minutes while they were repaired. I thought I was going to pass out. It was so crowded and it was hot as hell and we were having to hold both of the dogs. Poor Sprocket was panting...everyone was hot! And we all know how fun it is to be crammed in with a bunch of sweating Europeans. But we made it home!! And decided that we WEREN'T going out to dinner...neither of us were in the mood at that point! Today we are just taking it easy...not much choice around here on Sunday's. I think I have mentioned before that everything is closed on Sunday's. We made breakfast this morning...this was Tyler's attempt to get the waffles "crunchy" We had to put them out on the porch because they were smoking so bad. And I wanted to share our bottle of syrup...it was 5,99E. Apparently the "American way of life" is very expensive. Wembley as always was a huge help and cleaned Tyler's face for him after breakfast. We are always so proud at how considerate he is of others! The weather today is AMAZING!! Sunny and 70 degrees. Not sure why it couldn't be like this on the days we want to spend some outside! But we are thankful for it!! It gives us the opportunity to sit outside at Coffini today with the dogs. So, looking forward to the start of another week. Especially this one because it marks the first week of our visitors!!! Reagan and Mikey will be here on Thursday and better get over their jetlag soon cause we are headed to Prague on Friday as soon as Tyler gets off work! Speaking of Reagan, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! I can't wait to celebrate in style next weekend! I love you!
